Craveiral

Nine hectares of Portuguese bliss.

Owner Pedro Franca Pinto had a vision when he saw the land in 2010 and after eight years of persistence and hard work, Craveiral was born. It’s an eco resort that’s been so thoughtfully planned and executed, that you–no matter who you are–will feel like you’re in the perfect place. The ease of which hospitality comes to the partners, a lawyer, a designer, and a financial whiz, is unexpected. As is their dedication to sustainability. Craveiral is the definition of inherent responsibility.

The property

One word: serene. The property, nestled in the southern part of Portugal only a few kilometers from the beach, is flat and feels expansive. Very little nature was disturbed in the development of the hotel. It is utterly tranquil. Here you will find organic gardens that supply the Michelin star chef, an orchard, a farm complete with animals, three pools (one indoor heated to die for), a lodge with a massive fireplace that we could sit by all day reading books and having drinks with friends by evening, and a wellness center. Here, there is an undeniable connection to nature, meanwhile you’re surrounded in your creature comforts.

Whether your with family children bouncing on your head or on a romantic getaway with your lover, or a solo traveler with your cat in tow, you’ll be welcomed. Pedro and his partners have smartly designed a property with 38 casitas, 11 of which are separated as adult only. You can choose to be independent here as the casitas have all the creature comforts of home, or be completely supported by the Craveiral team. Activities are plentiful such as horseback riding on the beach (15 minutes to the coast), chillin’ in the wellness area (including sauna, hammam–think something like a Turkish bath, and jacuzzi), taking a yoga class or grabbing the bikes and riding through the countryside. But one of our favorite activities as mothers of young children – Craveiral is the best for doing absolutely nothing.

Design

Rustic, simple, comfortable, luxurious, and casual all at the same time. Again, the team has created a place that everyone can love whether you’re into 5 star hotels or a cabin in the woods. You can feel at home while you’re here.

Food

Organic and straight from the garden, baby…just how we like it. Michelin star chef, Alexandre Silva serves up seasonal ingredients, most often from small and local producers for lunch and dinner. Organic pizzas come out of the wood-fired oven all afternoon and into the evening. Of course there’s a lovely breakfast to start your day as well.

Sustainability in practice

Craveiral has taken no shortcuts to bring you this tranquil property with total respect to the serene Alentejo landscape. Sustainability isn’t a trend here. They haven’t created one of our most responsible offerings, not because it sells, but because it’s a way of life….and it’s inspiring.
