The Hotel
The interior spaces of casa9 blend traditional and contemporary design to create an environment that is simultaneously elegant and cozy. An unassuming front door leads to an open common area that sets the mood for the rest of the property with its mix of mid-century modern furniture and Mexican design elements. Tall bookshelves brim with art and architecture publications alongside locally-made delicacies. A well-stocked honor bar looks out expansive windows to the flourishing garden below.
Rooms
The four guest rooms have been comfortably outfitted with design elements and furniture made by local artisans. Handmade beds and tables combine Mexican materials with modern design to create one-of-a-kind combinations, and floor-to-ceiling windows bring the outside in. The hotel layout and the limited number of guest rooms make each suite feel like a separate space, so don't be surprised if you feel like you have the whole place to yourself...in a good way.
Food and drink
Breakfast at casa9 is simple but delicious. While owner/chef Patricia may not personally prepare your food, she's made sure to source the best ingredients alongside the team of in-house cooks. So expect to find pastries from cult favorite Rosetta bakery and local jams and coffee alongside made-to-order breakfast specials, amongst other delights. Later in the day, you might enjoy an artisanal tequila from the honor bar as you take in the sun on the patio.
The area
Located in one of the most vibrant creative neighborhoods of the city, some of Mexico City's best galleries, restaurants, and cultural attractions are just outside the front door. The streets of Condesa are overflowing with tropical plants, and urban parks–– perfect for taking in the city on foot. A collection of museums and galleries are also within easy walking distance of the property, making this an ideal base for exploring the city. In addition, you'll find great options for going out, with many local eateries and bars around the corner.
Your hosts
Casa9 is the result of the owner, Patricia's varied expertise in history, advertising, travel, and culinary arts. A creative at heart and the world in her eyes, she's a Chilanga, chingona, y buena onda, living part-time in Spain. The house tells her story in a way. Typical of La Condesa, facades are European in style and grace–– Casa9 leans French–– but when you pass the threshold, you experience a modern interpretation of Mexico's heart and soul. Everything is made by Mexican hands, from the walls to the furniture to the wine. Sometimes contemporary design can feel too austere and cold. But here, Patricia and the team have created a space of warmth and love through their design and service. We just adore it.
Roberto, a Mexico City native with a wealth of local knowledge and creativity, is your full-time host. You'll find him putting together floral arrangements for the property made up of otherworldly tropical flowers and leaves. Roberto is also a talented coordinator of extraordinary events for guests. He arranges interesting and authentic excursions you might not easily find anywhere else. From hot air balloon rides over the ruins of Teotihuacan to temazcal ceremonies to in-house cocktail nights with local mixologists. You'll be amazed by the possible personalized experiences on the property and around the city.
Simply put, these hosts know the city. They know Mexico. Their taste is exemplary, and they want you to leave having experienced it.
Why we love it
Thoughtful details. From the ground up, this is a design lover's paradise. The history of the hotel is a lesson in both preservation and innovation. While the property was built as a luxurious private residence, it became neglected over the decades. It stayed in the same family until 2009, when the current owners of casa9 fell in love with it. Portions of the home were in ruin, while others were salvaged and restored, like the original stained glass windows. Design-loving owner Patricia breathed new life into the structure in collaboration with the playful and innovative Mexican architectural firm Habitación 116. The result is a cool, soul-filled bed and breakfast in the heart of one of the world's most exciting cities.
Good to know
Casa9 is a great home to rent exclusively. You will still receive the benefits of the hotel service while having a place for yourself and your small group. In addition, Roberto can arrange dinners prepared by local chefs and anything else you can imagine.
